Spiced coffee

Spiced coffee is one of our local traditions, however it is also a quick and simple way of transforming an ordinary mug of coffee into a heart-warming cup of brew  🙂

For 3 cups of coffee, warm up 500ml of water. If you have a  coffee pot use this. alternatively an ordinary saucepan will do.   Throw in your spices:

1 cinnamon stick

1 1/2 teaspoon of whole cloves

1 teaspoon whole aniseed

If you are using ground spices, use slightly less.   Simmer for a few minutes until the water starts to turn very slightly brown, absorbing the flavours from the spices.  Next, add the coffee. 2 tablespoons of instant or ground coffee.   If you use ground coffee, allow it to simmer for a couple of minutes before proceeding.

Strain the coffee using a tea strainer, or a piece of clean cotton cloth. Add sugar to taste, and serve.
